I reposted this video in response to the number of new followers who joined me after this video.
I am not a safe space to shame women. Just because I can't relate to the idea of "doing whatever it takes to get or sustain your ideal romantic relationship" doesn't mean I don't understand it, from an anthropological standpoint. In fact, if you take anything away from me, it should be all the ways that I am able to understand and empathize with behaviors I absolutely do not relate to.
Even though I don't communicate like this and can't stand when people do, I still think we should extend collective empathy instead of mockery.
I'm not a scholar or anthropologist, but since l've studied cultural behaviors intently so that I could assimilate (immigrant problems) and mask effectively (adhd / neurodivergent problems), it bothers me when people bully others for behaviors that the culture has demanded, and that have perfectly reasonable origins if you stop to think about them for a few seconds. These behaviors don't come out of nowhere, and it's dishonest to ridicule people as if they're being stupid when they're just playing by the rules they were taught to.
I reflect on the various ways that the combination of my neurodivergence and specific personal experiences have saved me from some of the behaviors I was supposed to be programmed with as a woman in our current society; but, this is not a "haha women are so dumb, I can't believe they're that stupid" page.
